The National Adult Literacy Agency is celebrating International Literacy Day by hosting a conference at the Wood Quay venue at the Dublin Civic Offices on Tuesday 8 September 2016. The conference will focus on the theory and practice of transformative learning. There will be a range of speakers presenting on this topic from adult literacy students involved in transformative projects to adult literacy tutors, ALOs and academics.
SOLAS, Ireland’s Further Education and Training Authority, are also launching a new national literacy and numeracy awareness campaign at the conference.
The aim of the campaign is to encourage people who have difficulties with reading, writing, maths or technology to ‘Take the first step‘ and call a Freephone number to get the help they need.
The campaign will feature real students sharing their positive stories about returning to education to improve their literacy and numeracy. It will include national radio advertising, video and digital advertising on social media, posters, as well as a large PR campaign.
