Sorry to let you know that NALA needs to cancel the Voting event that was due to take place on Saturday 28 September.

The next Irish general election is around the corner. The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) is working with the Dublin Adult Learning Centre (DALC) on this event for adult literacy students.

Students: Are you interested in finding out more about how to vote, and politics in Ireland?

Who is this event for?

This free event is for you if you are 18 years or over and are improving your reading, writing, maths, or digital skills:

  • in an adult literacy centre, or as part of another programme (for example a National Learning Network, Community Training Centre or Youthreach); or
  • with NALA’s over the phone Tutoring Service or the Learn with NALA website.

What will happen at ‘The importance of your vote’ event?

This free event takes place at Hotel Riu Plaza (The Gresham) on O’Connell Street in Dublin from 9.30 am to 1 pm with a free soup and sandwiches for people attending. At this event you will:

  • take part in a workshop about how to vote
  • hear from an expert about politics in Ireland and there will be a questions and answers session

NALA will give out free books on the day.

9.30 – 9.55 am – Introduction – National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA), and Dublin Adult Learning Centre (DALC)

10.15 – Comfort break

10.30 – 12 pm –  How to vote – workshop with Fiona Connaughton, DALC

12 – 12.30 pm – Mick Clifford, journalist with the Irish Examiner newspaper and of The Mick Clifford Podcast will talk about the current political landscape and where one vote made a difference.

12.30 – 1 pm – Questions and Answers session

1 pm – 2 pm  Lunch: soup and sandwiches, tea, and coffee.
