Accredited professional development in integrating literacy [2017]

NALA has co-operated with the Waterford Institute of Technology in developing an accredited professional development course in integrating literacy.

  • Literacy Development Centre, Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT)

The NALA-WIT module Integrating Literacy in Adult & Further Education (Level 6) aims to enable participants to relate literacy issues to teaching in a variety of contexts, and to support teachers of other subjects in facilitating students who present with literacy difficulties. It is available to adult, community and further education and training organisations as a stand-alone module, delivered over 35 hours. The detail of timetabling and content is agreed between WIT Literacy Development Centre and the organisation concerned.

This module is also one of three modules in a Special Purpose Award offered by WIT at Level 6, the other two modules being Equality and Diversity, and Developing Literacies 1. The Integrating Literacy module is also an elective in Year 2 of WIT’s new Higher Certificate in Arts in Adult & Further Education.

Cost: €320 fee. There is a 25% discount for adult literacy practitioners (Department of Education & Skills subsidy). To find out more about this module, phone Éilish Roche (Level 6 Course Leader) on 086-313 7370, email emroche@wit.ie or visit WIT's website
